Role of the Little League Parent

Parents play a vital role in creating a positive and enriching experience for everyone involved—players, coaches, umpires, and fellow families. Your support helps shape the culture of our league and ensures that every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and enjoy the game.

To highlight the importance of parent involvement, here’s an excerpt from the Official Regulations and Playing Rules of National Little League Baseball:

The parents of millions of Little Leaguers—alongside their children, league officials, umpires, managers, coaches, auxiliary members, and countless volunteers including sponsors—represent a powerful cross section of our nation.

Parents are encouraged to take initiative and share responsibility in making their local program successful. Little League is not a club offering babysitting or entertainment privileges—it’s a community-driven effort built and sustained by adult volunteers who want to extend its benefits to their children.

Every parent has a role to play. There’s a place and a job for everyone, and the success of the league should never rest on just a few. When parents step back, it places an unfair burden on others.

At Alderwood Little League, we believe that when families come together, great things happen for the kids and the community. Whether you're cheering from the stands, volunteering your time, or helping behind the scenes, your involvement makes a difference.

Let us know how you'd like to be part of the team!

Volunteers Wanted!

Alderwood Little League runs entirely on the dedication of volunteers. While many of our helpers are parents of Little Leaguers, you don’t need to be a parent to get involved—everyone is welcome!

There are countless ways to contribute, and your time and talents can make a real difference. Whether you’re interested in coaching, umpiring, working the concession stand, keeping score, helping with field maintenance, fundraising, or supporting tournaments, there’s a place for you to help out.

Volunteering is a meaningful way to support youth in our community. Even a small commitment of time can have a big impact, and the experience is incredibly rewarding. You’ll help create lasting memories and a high-quality experience for every player.

Ways to Get Involved:

  • Help coordinate or work an event, like our annual Pancake Breakfast
  • Keep score at games with the GameChanger App
  • Manage walk-up announcements and songs for the players
  • After game snack coordinator
  • Join a sub-committee, such as the League Sponsorship Team
  • Assist with fundraising efforts
  • Serve in the concession stand during regular season or tournament play
  • Umpire games at the Major Division or leagues with parent volunteers as umps

Note: All on-field volunteers must be registered. For details on how to sign up, please visit the How Do I Volunteer section.

We’d love to have you on board at Alderwood Little League!
